Some of you may not know, but, my wonderful husby Tim works for United Launch Alliance.
And tomorrow, they are launching an Atlas V rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base here in central CA.
SpaceFlight Now has all the info. (Actually, the joke at ULA is that SpaceFlight Now knows things before the employees know it...that they check SpaceFlight Now to see if the launch has scrubbed).
Tim doesn't usually work on the Atlas rockets (he usually works on the Delta IVs), but since they have to clear SLC 6 (where he works, Space Launch Complex 6, pronounced "slick"), he's going over to SLC 3 to be a part of the launch.
Today Tim said there is no solid motors on the Atlas, so it won't be very loud. And since the launch is scheduled for a 45 minute window beginning at 10:02am, it will be hard to see. BUT, once again, SpaceFlight Now has a live audiovisual feed that you can watch! You can also find more info about the Atlas V rocket there, and the satellite they are putting into orbit. (And yes, they are starting final prep at 2:22am...Tim will leave here around 1:30am for a 12 hour day).

ReplyDeleteOh, and can your hubs launch a rocket to destroy N. Korea's testing site??? I am hoping their test turns out poorly as the last one did!
lol sounds like a good idea to me! usually he works on rockets that launch NRO satellites, so who knows what those are doing! ;)
